Wabash

What did Congressman Burton do for Wabash County?

1)    Hoosier Heartland Highway - $1 Million
This project is part of the planned Heartland Industrial Corridor improvement from Lafayette, Indiana to Toledo, Ohio – a distance of approximately 200 miles.  The Heartland Industrial Corridor is among the 21 national identified High Priority Corridors on the National Highway System – critical north-south and east-west high capacity roads.  The Heartland Corridor carries a large quantity of international trade, and is the economic artery of a vast manufacturing community based in Ohio, Indiana and southeastern Michigan.  This specific portion of the project – US 24 from the east County line in Wabash to the west County line in Miami County – deals with improvements to the roadway, signalization, turn lanes, intersections and related infrastructure improvements.  Removing structural hazards and improving the safety characteristics of the road will result in significant economic, congestion and safety benefits.

2)    The Child Project - $50,000
This project is for the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department.  It provides funding for a secure network database and registry utilizing iris recognition biometric technology to quickly and positively identify missing children and adults.

3)    Snow Storm Recovery
As he has done several times in the past few years when tragedy has struck our State, Congressman Burton, as Dean of the House delegation, is bringing together Indiana’s Senators and bipartisan House delegation to send a letter to President Bush asking him to approve and expedite Governor Daniel’s request for federal assistance to help disaster stricken Hoosier communities affected by the recent snow storm recover.
